Mentoring & Coaching

Level up the team you already have.

We are well-versed in operating systems, networks and databases, and in just about any technology a small business meets. We use that experience to coach your people through small to mid-sized projects, hands-on.

Two engineers working through code together at one screen

Side by side, on your code

Coaching happens on the work in front of the team, not in a training room: pairing on a real change, reviewing a real design, fixing a real deployment.

Topics

Practical coaching, on your real work

Engineering practices

Code review, testing, CI/CD and agile delivery that actually shortens time to market.

Design and architecture

How to structure systems so they stay easy to change.

Infrastructure basics

Operating systems, networks, databases and cloud, for teams without a specialist.

AI-assisted development

Using AI coding assistants productively and safely in your team; for the full framework, see AI-native engineering.

Tech leadership

Support for new leads: planning, estimation and running a team.

Knowledge transfer

Documentation and runbooks, so knowledge does not leave with one person.

Pricing

Simple hourly rates, in packages of 5

A package of 5 one-hour sessions is the minimum, because a practice needs a few weeks of real work to take hold. Prices exclude GST.

Online

$200 / hour + GST

5-session package: $1,000 + GST

  • Video call with screen sharing, on your code and tools
  • Anywhere in Australia
  • Short written notes after each session

A typical package

What five sessions can look like

Every package is shaped around your team's actual work. This is an example for a team that wants faster, more predictable delivery.

  1. Step 1

    Session 1: where it hurts

We look at a recent change from ticket to production and agree the two or three practices worth changing first.

  2. Step 2

    Sessions 2–3: on real work

Pairing on a real change: tests that protect it, a review that catches what matters, a pipeline that ships it.

  3. Step 3

    Session 4: design

Reviewing a design your team is about to build, so that it stays easy to change.

  4. Step 4

    Session 5: make it stick

Writing the agreed practices down and moving the important ones into the build, so they outlast the package.

Right for you if

  • You have a small team without a senior engineer or tech lead to learn from
  • A new lead needs support with planning, estimation and reviews
  • Releases are slow or unpredictable and nobody is sure why
  • Your team has started using AI coding assistants and wants to use them well and safely

Mentoring questions

Why is the minimum five sessions?
A single session can explain a practice, but it takes a few weeks of applying it to real work before it becomes a habit. Five sessions give enough time to see the change in your own delivery.
Can the sessions be for one person or a whole team?
Either. The rate is per hour, not per attendee, so a team session costs the same as a one-to-one.
Can we mix online and in-person sessions?
Yes. Each session is charged at its own rate: $200 an hour online and $300 an hour in person, plus GST.
What technologies do you cover?
Most of our work is in .NET, SQL Server, cloud platforms and CI/CD, and we are well-versed in operating systems, networks and databases generally. Tell us your stack on the free call and we will say plainly whether we are the right fit.
